What a strange time! More than a month into a lockdown in Ontario we know many of you with kids are looking for ways to keep them, and yourselves, busy. Cooking is always a great option if you are stuck inside. Not only is it an asset to learn how to cook young, it can help kids practice their math skills, patience as well as teach them about the food they're eating and where it comes from.
We’ve pulled together some of our favourite kid friendly recipes that your kids will not only enjoy eating but they’ll enjoy making! Go ahead, try these out and share your videos and photos of the finished recipes on our social media channels.
No Bake Snack Bars – Averie Cooks
These are super fun and super easy to make. They only involve the microwave so the kids (depending on their age) can basically make them on their own – with adult supervision of course.

Microwave Egg Sandwich – Taste of Home
These are a breakfast staple in our house! It’s like making your very own Egg McMuffin. This recipe calls for egg substitute, but we use actual eggs or egg whites. The trick is to use a small bowl and crack the egg into the bowl and whisk it up before microwaving. Top with your favourite toppings and voila! Click here to get the full recipe.
Homemade Colourful Pasta – Jamie Oliver
Making pasta at home can seem like a daunting task. Right now, if you've got a bit of extra time at home and looking to try something new these colourful pasta noodles are so fun to make (and eat) with the kids.

Chicken Enchiladas – The Kitchn
These enchiladas are so good and easy to make. It’s a great way to use any scraps from grocery store rotisserie chicken and can be easily made ahead and baked on another day. You can also make them vegetarian by eliminating the chicken and use beans or tofu instead. Get the full recipe here.
Vanilla Sugar Cookies – Julia’s Album
We had to throw another sweet treat into the mix, and what kid doesn’t LOVE sprinkles? These cookies have simple ingredients but look fantastic and taste even better. We also love Julia’s tips on her blog for these, which will help you get that perfect sugar cookie shape. For the full recipe, click here.
