After studying at Parsons School of Design, I worked in New York City for a few years at an architecture firm before moving to the UK. I then spent 5 years in London, working my way up from Intern to Senior Designer and working on projects that brought me all over the world, from Tuscany to Qatar to Singapore and back.
When we were ready to start a family, my husband and I decided to come back to Toronto, where I started Rachel Deeks Design. This year we are celebrating 10 years of RDD!
To me, being a designer is all about making our clients’ homes more functional, beautiful, and enjoyable for them by creating interior spaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and practical. As a designer, it’s my job to consider all of the details so my clients don’t have to. We know that it’s the little thoughtful things that are included in a renovation or new build that make the world of difference to the finished product. Our goal is to make the process as seamless and smooth for our clients as possible, always aiming to be one step ahead.
I would describe our aesthetic as clean, timeless, and transitional. While we do gravitate towards some of our favourites, we always strive to understand the individual needs and preferences of our clients and to create spaces that reflect their own unique styles and personalities. We work to guide our clients on the best ways to incorporate their inspirations and wish list items. The most important thing to remember is that the client needs to love their space at the end of the day.
