Mouthwatering Hanukkah Recipes

This year, Hanukkah begins on the evening of December 10th and lasts for eight nights. Hanukkah is one of the most important celebrations for Jewish people, and it is filled with beautiful traditions, including some incredibly delicious meals.

Much of the food served on Hanukkah is symbolically cooked in oil. The reason being is that 2,200 years ago a group of Jewish people fought against a tyrant king from Damascus for freedom to worship in the holy temple in Jerusalem. Ending in victory for the Jewish people, they needed oil to light the menorah but only had enough oil for one night. Miraculously, the oil lasted 8 days, allowing them to find more oil and keep the eternal flame lit.

Many Hanukkah recipes created are inspired by this incredible miracle and whether you observe the Jewish religion or not, they are a must try this holiday season.

Latke with Greens & Mushrooms

This recipe is an alternate to the traditional latke. It suggests using pre-made hash-browns, to save time, but if you have the time (or can put your children to work), grating your own potatoes for this makes it that much better! Find the full recipe here.

Hanukkah Sufganiyot

These deep-fried jelly donuts are so incredibly delicious we’ll tell you right now you should double, better yet, triple, this recipe! Everyone you serve these to will immediately demand more. Access the recipe here.

Brisket with Fennel & Herbs

Brisket, at times, can be hit or miss. It can end up quite dry and could take the hands of a talented chef to end up with something juicy and tender. This recipe will make you that talented chef. It’s immensely popular and will leave you with delectable, juicy brisket and very happy guests. Get the recipe here.

Matzoh Ball Soup

Though Matzoh Ball Soup is not always served at Hanukkah (it is traditionally served at Passover) it’s one for the books. Cozy and flavourful this is a soup that’s perfect for the winter season. Find the full recipe here.
