Behind the design

Designing nine kitchens is no easy feat—how about designing them all at the same time?

My name is Autumn Hachey, I’m the founder of Stay Here— a design studio that specializes in the branding and interior design of vacation rentals. You might have heard of our latest design project Hotel Julie—as it was the star of CTV Life’s latest renovation series “Staying Inn Hotel Julie”. It’s not common that a boutique hotel has a fully functioning kitchen in it—but there’s not really anything common about how we designed Hotel Julie. Taking an artful approach to the design we really leaned everything beautiful about the quaint town of Stratford- sourcing inspiration from the grandeur of theater and Shakespeare, creating a rich, moody, luxe place for people to stay during the famous annual Shakespseare Theatre Festival.

When we set out to design Hotel Julie it was very important to us that each suite felt distinctly different- while still repeating specific elements, motifs and materials in order to tell a collective story.

One commonality between all flats is that we’ve outfitted them all with Tasco appliances, creating a unique experience for guests to dine in-suite during their stay. 8 out of the 9 flats feature a stove, dishwasher, microwave & mini-fridge. Only one flat was a little too small—however it still received the high end Hotel Julie design and its own mini fridge.

Let’s take a little tour of Hotel Julie:

Designed for a group of two friends, sisters, family or even two couples that don’t mind sharing a small(er) bathroom—this suite features a monochromatic gold colour scheme from floor to ceiling complemented by vibrant floral velvet. The custom designed kitchen features a beautiful slab wall with a marquee inspired feature light installation, a deep maroon coloured fluted island with rosso levanto marble counters.

This intimate flat is smaller in scale at 176 sq. feet-being the perfect backdrop for a shorter stay. Designed for the solo traveller or couple looking for a taste of the Hotel Julie experience at a lower price point.

This flat features soaring ceilings, a comfortable queen bed opposite a fluted kitchenette with an integrated microwave and mini fridge freezer. For this kitchen we leaned into a gorgeous moody green millwork topped off with a cut cross travertine slab.
